Accepted PD Activity Types

  • Clock hours from OSPI-approved continuing education providers
  • College or university semester credits (1 semester credit = 15 clock hours; 1 quarter credit = 10 clock hours)
  • Professional Growth Plans (1 PGP = 25 clock hours, up to 1 PGP per year)
  • National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification (satisfies equity clock hour requirement)
  • STEM integration clock hours (for educators with STEM-related endorsements)

Special Rules & Notes

Important notes for this license

  • 100 clock hours (or equivalent credits or PGPs) required per 5-year renewal cycle
  • As of July 1, 2023, an additional 15 clock hours in equity-based school practices aligned with CCDEI standards are required
  • Educators holding STEM endorsements must also complete an additional 15 clock hours in STEM integration
  • Clock hours used to satisfy one specific area (equity, STEM, leadership) cannot be double-counted for another area
  • On-time application deadline is January 1 of the expiration year; uniform expiration date is June 30
  • Educators record professional learning through OSPI eCertification portal
  • Renewal fee is $52
