Special Rules & Notes

Important notes for this license

  • 150 CPE hours required per 5-year renewal cycle
  • At least 15 CPE hours must be in T-TESS (Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System) if T-TESS appraiser
  • Texas educators with National Board Certification receive automatic renewal (no CPE hours required during NBC validity period)
  • Certificates are issued and renewed through SBEC (State Board for Educator Certification)
  • Online renewal submitted through TEAL (Texas Education Agency Login) portal at tea.texas.gov
  • Certificates with a 'Lifetime' status do not require renewal
