Special Rules & Notes

Important notes for this license

  • 100 CTLE clock hours required per 5-year registration period
  • At least 15 of the 100 hours must be in language acquisition addressing the needs of English Language Learners
  • ESOL and bilingual education teachers must complete 50% of hours in language acquisition
  • Registration (not renewal) occurs every 5 years through the TEACH online system; professional certificate itself does not expire
  • CTLE hours must be completed with NYSED-approved CTLE sponsors — not all PD qualifies
  • Employers (public school districts) report CTLE completion to NYSED on the educator's behalf
