Special Rules & Notes

Important notes for this license

  • 90 PDPs required per 5-year renewal cycle, logged in the Individualized Professional Development Plan (IPDP)
  • PDPs must include professional learning in four required areas: (1) content or pedagogy in a licensed area, (2) ESL/Sheltered English/Bilingual Education, (3) strategies for teaching students with disabilities or differentiated instruction, and (4) culturally responsive teaching or diverse student identities
  • Beginning July 1, 2025: educators in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Generic Special Education (all grade bands), and ESOL must demonstrate proficiency in scientific reading instruction at renewal (passing score on approved reading assessment or equivalent)
  • Renewal submitted through the TEACH Dashboard at marylandpublicschools.org
  • Renewal fee: $10 per certificate ($1.50 additional for online payment)
