- 6 semester credit hours OR 90 contact hours required per 5-year renewal cycle
- Contact hours must relate to professional development in teaching or education
- If employed in a Maine public school, the district's certification support chair recommends the renewal
- Teachers not currently employed in a Maine public school submit 6 college credits or 90 contact hours directly with their renewal application
- National Board Certified teachers receive a 10-year renewal period instead of 5 years
- Renewal submitted through the Maine DOE certification portal at maine.gov/doe/cert
- Renewal fee: $75
