  • Contact hours must relate to professional development in teaching or education
  • If employed in a Maine public school, the district's certification support chair recommends the renewal
  • Teachers not currently employed in a Maine public school submit 6 college credits or 90 contact hours directly with their renewal application
  • National Board Certified teachers receive a 10-year renewal period instead of 5 years
  • Renewal submitted through the Maine DOE certification portal at maine.gov/doe/cert
  • Renewal fee: $75
