Accepted PD Activity Types

  • Graduate credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university (15 graduate hours per 5-year cycle under standard option)
  • Continuing Education Option (CEO): independent professional growth plan including courses, workshops, and PD activities approved by employer
  • Three years of full-time teaching experience within the 5-year certificate period

  • Primary renewal path: verify at least 3 years of full-time teaching experience within the past 5 years
  • Alternative: complete 15 graduate hours OR fulfill the CEO requirements
  • CEO requires a professional growth plan approved by the educator's employer
  • Kentucky law (KRS 158.070) requires 24 hours of PD per year; schools provide 6 hours, teachers may earn remaining 18 online
  • Renewal fee approximately $85; certificate issued by the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB)
  • Applications submitted through the EPSB online system
  • Certificate expires on June 30 of the renewal year
