Special Rules & Notes

Important notes for this license

  • As of July 1, 2012, CEUs (continuing education units) are no longer required to maintain a Connecticut Professional Educator Certificate
  • Connecticut school districts are responsible for offering at least 18 hours of professional development per year to the educators they employ
  • Certificate should be continued no earlier than six months and no later than six weeks before the date of expiration
  • No fee is charged for continuation of a Professional Educator Certificate
  • Renewal (continuation) submitted through the Connecticut Educator Certification System (CECS) online or via paper ED 179 form
