Important notes for this license

  • 50 clock hours of acceptable professional development required per 5-year renewal cycle
  • Alternatively, educators may complete 3 semester hours of acceptable college credit in lieu of 50 PD hours
  • Another option: 3 years of full-time educational experience plus 50 clock hours of PD
  • National Board Certification earned during the certificate's valid period also satisfies renewal
  • Application must be submitted between January 1 and June 30 of the certificate's expiration year
  • Renewal applications submitted through the ACE (Alabama Certification for Educators) online portal
